JBP seedling/cutting growers competition(Mark Comstock)

You gotta put it like that. That’s not natural
The
What kind of soil mix are you using there? Looks like a good bit of pearlite and pretty fine. My soil is so coarse that my roots look nothing like that.
perlite 60/ peatmoss 40

Here is a good one, I guess this is about 15 months from the last cutting, I cut the needles from the first flush this year to bring more UV to the base buds so they pop open and grow. This will be a 3 or 4” tall tree,,,, I love messing around with pines

Cool!
Im trying this now.Have a bunch starting to sprout indoors.
Thanks for all the explanation in your threads.

I appreciate your explanations too.
I don’t know jack sap about pines (yet) but it is very interesting to read all about the processes and see the techniques.
Your trees always look great from my (albeit dangerously) under educated point of view.

Really happy with this batch

@kingsville grower ......Pretty amazing how thick they are!
When did you notice roots on cutting1st times? Like a couple weeks. If you would be inclined to share.Obviously this is probably variable’but just wondering.

Yeah I love messin with pines , last years and this year production came out really special. The one not wired is a thrice cut, it’s 1/4” wider in the trunk than any I cut twice, it’s 3/4” at soil lineB3A05A89-3B7B-4FB3-9930-A59FFAD4EF99.jpegAE9F583D-BD66-4FD3-861B-F682C33E8DDB.jpeg tho3BA7971D-0614-4F8A-A500-F86447AF397B.jpeg

With bottom heat they throw roots in 9 to 12 days, sometimes less. No bottom heat could take 30 days and yield few roots

A random selection, end of 2nd growing season, now that I have my entire crop on one level of radial roots arranged nicely I will now pot into akadama pumice, cutting out any crossing and or dominant roots, potting 300 to startA5C49908-7825-421D-BCF1-C293B09DFCA2.jpeg41F5771F-568D-41B1-B2FC-F739B0A50167.jpeg

Awesome radial roots!
So you're repotting them now, not late winter/early spring?

Impressive! Really shows how far I am behind on this contest.

Hey @kingsville grower , I PM'd you a while back but never heard anything back. If someone isn't on Facebook how can they purchase from you?
