i've been growing this guy from a seed for about a year now. It sits outside on my balcony, west facing.

Now, houston has been going through a pretty insane heat wave the last few weeks. i've been watering it 2x a day during the heat wave but it's starting to wilt like in the pictures. I put it back in the corner for a bit more shade from other plants/walls.

Am i missing something else i should be doing? Appreciate any tips on this.

1 bump for any advice anyone might have! I gotta fly outta town in a couple days. definitely worried about other people watering them. lol

Man, starting to lose hope on this one. Been about a month and a half with no new growth at all, in the shade. Just moved it inside in a last ditch effort to let it recover from the Houston Temps.

Any other options to try and save this guy?

So i wouldn't give up hope just yet. As long as there is green the tree is still alive. That kind of wilting on a Jacaranda could be cause by under watering yes, but as well as over watering, root damage or hot winds. Do you check that the soil is dry at least a inch deep before watering again? This west facing balcony is it exposed to a lot of wind?

I wasn't checking too often because everything I have in that soil dries out, or almost dries out by the end of the day with the 105 heat.

I have been checking more often since I've moved it indoors.

Not much winds as far as I know.

I guess it's possible I was over watering? I think that'd be pretty hard to do in that soil with this weather lol

Echoing the previous poster re:not giving up just yet.
I am not claiming to be an authority I only have 3, but mine are all slow to back bud and leaf out after work.

I did a pretty significant trunk chop on one of mine and was certain I had killed it as it went what seemed like way to long without putting out any sign of life.

I just left it because it was in the back and I was sort of in disbelief, it eventually leafed out again and was immediately quite vigorous and has remained so.

If your root situation is okay yours might just be taking this defoliation as a reason to back bud and taking it's sweet time about it.

crossing fingers for you

It lives!! Brought it inside for a couple weeks to shelter it from the 105 summer we've been having, put it back outside in shade when this cool front hit last week.

And sure enough, new buds!
