You mean the yellow ones? That are little pieces that will die off. There are no buds on the yellowing pieces so the tree is shedding the needles. No big deal, plenty of other material to work with.
 
Yes … the yellow needles, this is my first year seeing it on the tree but then again I’ve only owned it for about 3 years or so. Thank you so much for your input because I would hate to lose this big boy.

Also, they don't need a lot of water so don't over-water them.

Last repot was 2 years ago and it’s akadama/Pumice/Lava…. Typical conifer mix. Thanks

That should rule out underlying root problems then, we had one Cedrus (libani?) which was still in transition to bonsai soil and it had yellow needles on certain branches before some of those died off.
 
Really nice one! Good graft transition, or is it on own roots? I did have one, but couldn't get past the look of the graft.
 
Thanks Judy...It is on its own roots, I was very lucky to be able to purchase it from a top shelf collector in my my local club 3 years ago.
