Over the past couple days, I have read posts on my phone at work while in the crapper. I need to respond to them when I get home due to many reasons, but mostly due to photo's. When I get home I can never find the thread due to one reason:

MOST PEOPLE fail to post to the many sub forums this board provides.

Want to talk about fertilizer and humates? Ask questions in the fertilizer sub forum.

Want to post video's about mugo pines? Put the threads in the pine forum.

Want to talk about tools? Yes, there is a forum about that.

Want to talk about your small trees? Put them in the shohin sub forum.

Why is this important? Well aside for the problem that I have above, we constantly tell people to search the board for past threads about the thing they are asking stupid questions about. yes stupid questions...I said I was pissy, get over it. If a newbie wants to come here and find out about pines, black pines, white pines, red pines, mugo pines or slash pines, they should find all they need to know by reading all the threads in the pine section of this forum. Now if you post all of your cool video's in "general" it will take someone lots of time and thousands of threads to search thru to find the nuggets of knowledge that would be found in the pine section.

Now, before someone runs thru the entire forum searching "Smoke", and trying to find a gotcha like a CNN news reporter, sure I probably have some. You will find for the most part that over the ten years I have been here I mostly post the appropriate musings in the correct sub forum or start one in general called "whats going on in Smokes Backyard" as a catchall to the update projects going on during the year. Also, most of those projects will have another thread in the appropriate sub forum...so there.

Why is this not done? We just lazy out there? and....please don't use the excuse that you get more coverage if posted to "general". Thats just BS....

This is one of my biggest pet peeves about this site. I agree with Smoke 100%, no 1000% (if there was such a thing). Pretty much everything posted in the general section, you can forget it ever existed because you'll never see it again once it gets buried under the 1,000,000 posts above it. Ive tried to mention this in a nicer way in the past, it got ignored.

Thank you Smoke for having the balls to post what I wasnt brave enough to post.

If there was ever a need for moderators to keep things where they belong, this is it.

Things may not get posted ion the approproate sub forum as you call it because if you post it there odds are it is going to get ignored, it's hard enough to get people to pay attention to what you are doing in the general discussion forum. I have posted every where only to have to move a post. Let's be honest; no one post anything because they hope no one is going to pay attention to it.

I try using the subforums all the time... I am with Al on this one, it is how it should be done.

I disagree. I ALWAYS look at the pines subforum and all the others that I am interested in. Lots of people post and respond in there. Enough people are interested in what you are doing they will find your posts there. People that arent interested in Mugos dont care either way.

Also, the things you posted last year or earlier. Some of them Id love to find sometimes but I dont bother because I just dont have time to wade through 500+ pages of General Discussioneven even with the search function. So all that good info is lost.

I just joined this forum, and probably did this with my couple of posts that I have. - Guilty as charged!
I will post in the sub-forums from now on... I am not sure what category my tree falls under though... Which sub category should I post in for my Jaboticaba?

Flowering, there is no other reason to have the tree!

Then you are reading the forum wrong. There is a button at the top that reads "new posts" and it does not discriminate, trust me. Also, if you post stuff that is informative and interesting to the readers, they will read it no matter where it is posted. I don't think your readership is what it is because you post it in "general". It is what it is because it is not maybe interesting to that many readers.

Start a thread in:
Large bonsai (Dai & Omono) since it contains only 20 threads about the contributions of akadama as a superior soil and that if you don't use it you are really not doing bonsai! Lets see if your theory is correct.

Personal opinion, like having a wisteria or bougy bonsai. They are prized for the flowers mostly. The rest of the year not so much....

Not sure I follow what you mean in regards to no other reason for having the tree

Because most flowering trees used in bonsai are only used because they grow flowers. That is when they are displayed, then relegated to the back of the bunch until you have flowers again.

Since you're in a pissy mood, tell me what you REALLY think about my JBP:

index.php
It's too pointy, the pot sucks and the trunk has no taper.
