I dont know why i dont know what this is

Yep.. wack'em both at the same time.. in a couple weeks it will pop with new growth..
What ar the conditions in its new home?

75 degrees year round
automated temperature and sunlight control
pretty average humidity

not really sure....
dont really have access to much
-all i can get to is peat moss, sand, pearlite and potting soil....
would it be alright for a month and a half in just potting soil? (until i come back from winter vacation)

the potting soil needs to drain well .. usually containing peat, perlite and other various elements.. i would add 1/4 more perlite and it will be good for a year..
an ideal soil mix for tropicals is 1/4" lava rock and pine bark soil conditioner .. half and half
if no pine bark soil conditioner is available then 100% lava rock
another basic mix is lava rock, turface and pine bark.
if you do a search on soil mixes you will find it is somewhat a personal thing.. what does well for you is determined by your conditions.. my suggestions will give you a good start. In time you will see what works best for you and your conditions.

hummmm... the roots going into the ground can either be totally eliminated or cut so that abount an inch rest into the soil.. they will root from where you cut them...
Main thing is to enjoy this whole process..
is this your first bonsai?

no i have done some boxwoods, an azalea, and junipers, but those didnt require such hard pruning and i've never done any tropicals....

Well.. you are in for a treat.. tropicals respond well when you have the right environment.
I don't think you will have any problems with this ficus.
PM me if you have any questions.

thanks so much tom!
i'll be sure to take lots of pictures and keep everyone posted!

we haven't heard much from u since ur first post cascade. haha
u have any other suggestions other than what tom made?
any help is appreciated

Looking good. i wouldn't be concerned about where the front is or any other styling for now.. just let it grow.. :)
Also put some soil up around the base of the trunk to fill in the where the roots flare a bit.. to keep it moist.
Waht did the roots look like that were in the pot?
Did you feed it?
You are going to have a nice tree in a few years.

..

Yeppurs..
Mary introduced me to the art and i am very grateful she did.
She was my first teacher..

Wow, very nice to meet you here, Tom! A few days ago I happened to run into Mary's website (until then I did not know she had one) where she mentioned your name. That's how it got stuck.

You had one of the best teachers then to introduce you to bonsai! A wonderful teacher and a wonderful person!

..

work done so far.

Now you will be growing a "serious" bonsai! This one is going to be very nice. Post again when the tree is full of buds so we can see where they are coming from. Don't trim anything off. Looking forward to see your next post! Job well done!

Amen to that! I managed a five acre nursery with her.. what a learning experience.
She has been a great sister and friend.

The person in charge of the green house told me that this hasn't been touched for probably 10 years if not more. There was almost more roots than soil in the pot. i have a pic of it here, can't really see much, but ya get the general idea.
I did feel it, just with the fert that they are using for all the other plants.
