How can you handle the large bonsai?

Just look on Craigslist. It will be much cheaper and you don't have to pay shipping fee for this heavy stuff. I bought mine only $50 through Craigslist.

I hope I'm not bothering after 3 years but in your experience do you really need both the Boyer and a lifting table/car? Does the hoyer move well? Which one will you take out of the two? Do you use these two for non bonsai related stuff?
I'm considering to get a folding engine crane or a lifting table with wheels for bikes, both have similar price.

Lol, it takes one heavy thing to break mine and/or my wife back. and yes like the red one but although the wheels could work just on hard surfaces still better for almost the same price.

Don’t worry. This topic will be never out of date?

To take care the large heavy bonsai, I need both Hoyer lift and hydraulic cart. If I just need to lift bonsai from one place to another, I can just use Hoyer lift which has 3 big rubber wheels and it is light weight ; very easy to move it around, but not for long distance! If I need to transplant the tree, then I will need both Hoyer lift and hydraulic lifting cart!

If you just want to lift the bikes, then you proujust need one, not two.

I'm sure Walter got many friends and people how will be more than happy to move his trees around :)-

Well to me large big bonsai seems more appealing. I think big or small all depends upon the bonsai enthusiasts what do they like.
There is an old saying Every cloud have silver lining. Either You find the solution or solution finds you.

Big bonsai, like over two feet, over 45 lbs, have appealed to me since I began doing this two decades ago. However, lifting more than a dozen 50-150 lb bonsai all year gets more difficult and annoying as you get older. I, like Walter P apparently, lift weights to continue to be able to care for my trees. I'm over 55, but in ten years things are going to get interesting. I've been looking at hydraulic carts to help out, as my kids are moving out of the house and no more "free" labor...

No one can avoid the aging! To continue enjoying the large bonsai, why don’t you find some tools to help you now? As someone here already met me in person, I am a underweight guy, but love caring for the big bonsai. I not only know my limit , but also with more than 34 years of experience in health care to which I found a lot of people got severe medical problems from heavy lifting! We need to know our limit and do not gamble with your health.

Why don't you keep any apprentice ? Wish i give a helping hand and learn from you but too far from you.

I have a few bonsai friends. We help each other out when we can. However, distances, traffic and especially family duties can short circuit plans.

I was talking to @maria kapra at the Bonsaiathon, and he was telling me one of the reasons why he enjoys shohin is that they are so easy to work on. The tree he was styling at the Bonsaiathon was a medium-sized tree (in the bonsai world) and he was laughing saying that in the time to wire that one tree he could have wired quite a number of his shohin :)

I have one tree that I consider "large" and it is really exponentially more difficult to care for on many levels. It isn't only the physical component. Just pruning it requires you to be able to access it from all angles - which is not always easy depending where you have it. Repotting is a major undertaking, and requires a ton of media. The pot costs $100's - even if it isn't a high end pot. I can't take it anywhere to show without finding someone with a van to help me move it. I prefer to stick with trees I can move myself without assistance, which at this point is a pot width of 24" - 18" depending on the tree and depth of pot.
