Hold on to your hat!!!

My little area of Upstate SC made it through practically unscathed. There's another front coming through between 10p and 2a tonight though.

Don't you guys have earthquakes somewhere over there? Cuz that could be why. Also, through the air is way cheaper and easier.

I wanted to say keep it up guys, but it's not like you don't know...
Best of luck then!
We do in the west. All of the country is succeptible so i never thought of that. Are your lines buried in the Neatherlands.

Last year we had our house hit. Blew out the cat 5 outlet completely off the wall. Burnt up 3 tvs blue rays, dvds. Melted a feeder wire in the attic. Metal roof on a two story home. Insurance covered most of it.

Most of it is. We live in a polder, which is relatively new (since around 1940's) and over here the high voltage stuff is hanging on big steel masts. I think in most rural areas it is, but not sure.

South Africa never has any drastic weather changes, everything happens slowly. Including natural disasters, we only had drought, and it happens slowly.

The yard's a mess with lots of debris from all the wind and rain but that's it. Knock on wood, the large hail, severe flooding and tornadoes left me alone.

No damage to the trees either then... ? Glad your home is safe...and your family is as well. Strong storms are so quick to destroy in a mater of a blink of an eye.

I know...we learned there is a weather group that classifies tornadoes. We as a lake coned roads off with down lines...checked in our neighbors...knew many was without power and they would get to us when they could. Helped with the clean up...that...when they came out to check the severity of the tornado. They were FURIOUS we hadn't called 911 that a tornado had touched down in our community. *HELLO...NO ONE HURT...WE GOT THIS MENTALITY OF HELPING THE NEIGHBORS...AND OUR COMMUNITY. Let them take care of those who didn't have a community to support each other and have one another's back. Ones who...needed someone's help. We were fine.

Glad to hear you're OK down there.

It's been a wild start to spring, hasn't it? After the warmest February on record, March came in like the proverbial lion. On the first we had a windstorm with 60 mph gusts that caused some minor damage. Then on the 8th the "big one" hit - a 6 hour windstorm that produced hurricane force wind gusts that peaked at 81 mph at the Rochester Airport. Thousands of power lines and trees went down, hundreds of power poles snapped. Roads were blocked for days. I think at the peak over half the utility customers in the county were without power (over 100,000). Several lines went down on the road next to ours and we were without power for a little over 4 days. Of course, during that period the coldest weather of the winter came in, with temps staying in the teens plus 40-50 mph wind gusts for two days. We had abandoned most of our house (where temps had dropped into the upper 30s) for a single room with a small gas heater.

Then the day after our power was restored, a two day blizzard hit that produced 26" of snow.

On the plus side, the recent cool/damp/dark weather has helped keep most of my trees dormant but they are starting to wake up so...lots to do.

And yes...this year we are getting a generator! LOL, been talking about that for the 13 years we've been here. Not going through this again.
