Western Juniper. Grafted on two Kishu whips a year ago, removed the roots from the grafts last May.

Now beginning to cut cut off the Western foliage, and style the Kishu.

We'll figure out the exact potting angle next January with Daisaku.

I'm thinking the final potting angle will be something like this.

Cool looking foliage. Such a difference in texture and color. Would like to see the view from the left side looking at the other side of the pigeon breast?

Smoke, I'll have to see if I can dig up an old pic. That WAS the front I first envisioned. But, I've come to really appreciate the deadwood on this side. The live vein comes up along the edge, too, making that "ribbon" style trunk.

No, both took.

Next spring, I'll start the process to "clean up" the grafts. Both each have two of the little green grafting nails still holding the grafts in place.

But yet you looked anyway!
:D
Of course I did...it was from Adair. I couldn't very well see him sharing a thong moment. But please Adair don't make me feel you have to share one way or the other, I'm fine not being in that loop. ;)

I'm tired...I need to go to bed before I stumble into the gutter, that's when I find myself slipping. Night all...

Chicken!

what sort of grafting did you do? got pics of the process?

Interesting. Make me feel better about my grafts; they're not buried much deeper than this appears to be, but I get worried they'll pop out over time.

These were done with Boon's super secret double flap method. Lol!

When Boon apprenticed in Japan, his master, Kamiya, wouldn't let Boon watch him graft. Until very near the end of his apprenticeship. So, when finally Kamiya showed Boon his grafting "secret technique", Boon said, "Oh, I already know how to do that!"

The advantage is the grafts almost always take. And bind strong. The disadvantage is there's more of a bulge at the graft Union. After several years, it's less noticeable.

This technique??

But aren't these aproximation grafts instead of scions?

Max,

What Adair has done is called Approach Grafting. It can be done
like he has done with a separate plant in pot or it can be done on
itself if you will. Taking a branch and bringing it to a place on the
tree where you want a new branch to be (if that make sense).
