I just paid over $350 for a very nice juniper (procumbens at that!) over another JBP

Maybe internet shopping with my iPad and PayPal at 2am is too dangerous and I'm delusional right now. I really like junipers and don't have a nice procumbens yet. Shimpaku is still my fav but so expensive and hard to find decent large stock at times. Pics to come.....

Lost it, we'll see

$350 for a procumbens seems like a bad purchase, but I would have to see pictures before I can say for sure.
Please post a picture.

It was actually $300 and from New England Bonsai which runs a little higher for trees but better with the member discount.

1" trunk. Front will be the last bottom picture I posted.

I guess its a little late but i found some decent shimpaku stock the other day at reflections in water.

http://www.reflectionsinwater.com/stock,cuttings_and_seedlings.htm

Not all the prices are listed but the ones that have prices listed seem to be fairly priced.

Thanks! I actually have this shimpaku with a 1.5" trunk diameter coming as well. It has a lot of branch options to keep and some for Jin. Don't tell my wife :) "What, that tree? I've had it forever. I just restyled it"

Ignore the hideous pot. It will get transplanted into a training pot next spring

Put the ipod down on the table and back slowly out of the room! Internet shopping is precarious at any time of day. There is no time on the internet, it's always open.

I don't think you've lost it yet, but I suspect if you keep doing this you will. It's your money and you can burn it anyway you like. LOL I certainly wish you the best of luck, cavate emptor or something like that, buyer beware!

I myself have not and likely would not buy expensive trees this way. It's risky business even with reliable vendors. Package handlers especially seem to like to turn boxes marked 'trees handle with care' upsidedown and punt them across the room. I learned my lesson on that one and now I build my package like Ft. Knox and no advice to the handlers. They could drag it behind the truck (slight over exaggeration)LOL, but really just build so they can do whatever they want and the tree stays put.

Sorry I got off on you a bit there, but I'm intrigued by folks with money to burn. I do wish you the best experience possible. Sincerly, Rick

PS, I have several shimps I'm growing a few years now and just getting to some size. I buy starts in tubes for about $15 and plant them out, then go do something else. It's time or money invested, I just happen to have more time than money.

It's never too late! That's what PayPal is for

Very true vin!

Sounds like my girlfriend! Although she did let me get a nice bougainvillea and parsonii juniper yesterday!

Trust me, I don't have money to burn :) I just decided to spend a little more to buy decent stock.

:DChad, got a good laugh out of this. Thanks I needed that! Boy! When I think of the stock I could get for $300! I don't even want to go to Forest Farm with $300 bucks in my pocket, it's only 20mi down the road.:D

Its always nice to have some good stock ,to ponder the possibilities .
If you can afford go for it , its like any other hobby.
I'm a hunter and with that being said hunting equipment if I totaled up my equipment would probably add up to 7 to 10 thousand just to shoot a deer and some ducks.
So your not crazy I am. LOL

I tell my wife that I dig them up out of the woods. I'm always digging trees and bringing them home. It's a great cover story.

I would'nt say it was a deal but it is a nice tree! Good luck with it. Not indoors. LOL!:)

Thanks. If I didn't know to keep a juniper outdoors then I really have lost it and should not be paying $300 for a tree. Lol. :)

In my expierence we usually pay top dollar from online bonsai stores. I try to get most of mine at auctions or collectors in my club. Timing is everything. A lot of people dont have access to that so they must get whatever is available. The more I look at the tree the nicer it gets! I can easily see how you puled the trigger, especially at 2am!

It's a nice tree and obviously healthy. Is it worth $300? That is up to each individual. I wouldn't have been willing to spend that much on it, maybe if I could see it in person. Or maybe if I could figure out how to keep junipers healthy!

Agree with the comment about acquiring trees from club auctions/sales, I've seen some amazing deals...

Regarding "Reflections in Water", I know the person who owns that business and have seen some of her stock. It's healthy and seems to be priced reasonably compared to similar stock elsewhere. I've bought a couple of things from her (no junipers, though) and have had no complaints. For anyone coming to the National Exhibition, she will be vending there.

EPIC.......digging will commence shortly.

I used to tell my parents I came home smelling like smoke because my friends and I loved the local bowling alley, so I can probably sell it.

Well, me as a beginner, my club said that I should go to this nursery that have beautiful shimpaku. Its the most beautiful stock at this nursery and its only like $25.
