Grow Beds 2020

You can always dig down and
Thanks for the idea Clem. It is indeed a difficult piece of material, but I think this is a promising option assuming the bases have fused, correct? I'm not sure what the roots on these look like, cant remember if they were on a tile or not. I'll dig around some and see

Wrap some wire around the whole group to force a ground layer and fusion (might need a bit of wire) Merrigioli does clump styles like this with cement instead in his book “Bonsai Maples” but the same techniques will apply to most deciduous. I might start a turtle back like this with this years seedlings because I really enjoy the pic that @clem posted

Sorry for the picture quality, but something else i forgot was even in the beds- one year old crabapple cutting. Second picture is the parent, an ugly duckling since day one. Bought as a 1 gal plant from evergreengardenworks.

Ripped this ume out yesterday, pink blooms. I'm quite happy with this one, grew it from a cutting I colander grew for a year or two. The roots are somewhat of a mess but could be much worse, and it came out easy so no complaints.

You can see where I cut a huge sacrifice off. Because the tree has some slight reverse taper at the first bend, I'm planning on a future uro/shari up to this chop scar.

With that said, should I seal it as is, cut it flush, etc? I dug it yesterday afternoon and haven't sealed it or anything, going to clean it up today and seal if necessary. Maybe cut some branches back now too.
