I have a severe leaf drop problem that developed over the course of 2-3 days with a green island ficus. It is housed for the winter in a small cheap "indoor" mini-greenhouse with temps kept at 70-80 degrees and relative humidity of 70%. In the same greenhouse I have F. benj. "Too Little" and F. salacaria. All of them, including the green island, were doing well with new growth and aerial roots especially from the "Too Little". A few days ago the green island dropped 50%+ of the leaves. No other ficus dropped leaves like this one. I would appreciate any ideas. I don't see any obvious signs of pests. Thanks.IMG_20131205_055341.jpg

It may just be that it took that specific plant that long to react and start adjusting to the new environment. I wouldn't worry about it. It should start sprouting new growth soon enough. I have a few ficus that I moved indoors and some dropped leaves and some didn't.

Bugs will pretty much never make a green island
Drop leaves...
The problem has to do with it's new environment, and
Or the cold.
Water very sparingly while it has no leaves...
Don't change its environment any further, leave it
Where it is...
It should start popping new buds in a couple of weeks.

A few weeks ago, after being inside for almost two months, my ficus did this same exact thing. It is leafing back out now, but I did lose a branch at the apex. A new one is growing behind it now though. I think it is just the trouble with growing tropicals indoors for the winter, it's not the perfect environment for the trees.
