Gonna be busy today

Lots of Decandling to be done today… Or maybe tomorrow . For what it’s worth, these are all smaller trees… The larger ones were decandled 7 to 10 days ago.

that is a lot of work! What is that white substance, Is it fert? But if so then how do you remove it after candle cutting? It looks like the leavings from carpenter bees, they've been such a wood nuisance this year here. One even started looking at the deadwood on my larch!

We don't have carpenter bees but we had a plague of cut bees this season... they decimated my wife's roses!

The white stuff is Clearys granular fungicide. I apply once in the spring as the buds begin to elongate and again in the summer at decandling time. Loads of carpenter bees around here, though... the only deadwood I'd worry about is on my Rocky Mountain Junipers and I think that wood is too hard even for them...

Done for now... muggy and 90 F + temps wore me out but mostly done. Several were only partially decandled. Tomorrow, I’ll decide if any wiring should be done now or wait until fall.
