You really just gotta read to know this.

It makes it easier when you understand individuals reason for doing bonsai....

They say, "get advice from people with trees you admire."
But that is incomplete.

A person who buys trees, can't tell you how to grow em.
A person who collects....
Can't tell you about choosing a stand.
A person who wanks.....
Can't tell you how to wire..etc.

Of course paths cross, so these are not wholly true....

But once you understand someone's position. You know what to believe.

If anyone wants to know who has good information....and who doesn't....
PM me! That's the only real solution!
Make it a Resource!

Adair needs to tell people about wiring. The OCD thing of his.
Fredman feels the need to make this a better place.
Grim is put out because Adair told him about wiring.

Lol!!!

Close, Mike. Not OCD. It's AD/HD. The hyper focus thing...

There is the saying:

"Wiring is bonsai. Bonsai is wiring."

And considering that my favorite tree for bonsai is JBP, and since JBP always need wire, it's only natural that wiring is what I focus on.

Really, it's almost comical! Last year, when I went to the Carolina Expo, there was a JWP on display owned by Brad of the Bonsai Learning Center. It was fabulous. Too fabulous! Then, I realized that whoever styled the tree was really good. (This thought process took like, 5 seconds!)

So then I got up and personal to take a detail look at the wiring, and then based upon a quick glance I could determine that it was Bjorn's work. It wasn't Boon's or Ryan's or Peter Tea's, Daisaku's, Akio's or Kathy Shaner's. (All good at wiring.)

No, it was Bjorn's.

Of course, I wanted to confirm my observation, so I asked around if anyone knew who wired it. And I got several strange looks from some people! Lol! But eventually, someone did tell me it was Bjorn's work.

I dunno, Mike... Maybe it is OCD! Lol!

@Adair M ...I would have to say OCD. Which is attention to details at its best. No foul in that. That you could tell by the way it was wired...is impressive. Like ones who authenticate signatures. But with a bonsai twist.
Well, if it's OCD, it's only about bonsai wiring!

No, I'm scatter brained about most everything else. Really, usually I don't notice details. On a lot of things. I forget to follow up. Forget appointments sometimes, if I'm actively doing something else.

I'm no psychologist. But, ADD and ADHD have a "hyper focus" mode. I can get that. I can sit in front of a tree and wire for hours. Totally forget what time it is, forget to eat, etc.

Most other activities, I get bored in 15 minutes!

Just going off of that one picture whare it looks like you are trying to use mind control on the tree you're so focused.

I voted no. I don't understand why some people get so hung up over a rank on a forum board. Ive seen it elsewhere too where people purposely post nonsense to get their post count and forum rank up. Are we all 12 or something? lol.

We do not need a ranking or categorizing system. There is no way to make it objective. It will be nothing more than a popularity contest (karma button) or self promotion platform (editable title under name).

You want to know who knows thier stuff around here, look at what they post; not just the trees, but what the did with them.

I am also with NYBonsai and Dav4. I don't have 14 hours a day to read forums. I use the new posts feature and I visit the boards I am most interested in. Once in a while, when I'm bored (hasn't happened lately), I'll sift through the other sections to see what's going on. In fact I missed this thread because I haven't been reading as much lately.

To clarify, the new idea i posted was intended so i could LOWER my rank/skilllevel and show my noobness in my profile so i wouldn't kill someone elses tree with bad advice.

Not the thing for this particular forum. It does not take long for people to know who knows their stuff and who does not. Plus all of us like to troll from time to time. It's a rowdy bunch so I'm pretty sure the karma train would be running most of us down...

I don't specifically mean you, but if one is giving advice without the confidence that it is correct, why give it at all??

It's funny how many people here think they know it all. They give advice, then share their trees sitting in potting soil with horrendous flaws and go on about how their trees don't need to fit in with the rules....They haven't mastered the basics but are going on about how they are free to break the rules because it's art or it appeals to them or whatever BS reason they come up with...

Lately, a quote keeps coming to mind:
"Often wrong, never in doubt."
