I bought some Shimpaku juniper starters for grafting on eBay here ...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271208538887?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

This is what I am supposed to get (per lot)...
You are bidding on a (3) healthy, well rooted 3 year old 1 gallon sized Juniper plants.

I thought it is great deal so I ordered 2 lots and this is what I got (2 lots)...

I am okay with the size of the plants but they are all grown together and not sure if they will survive being separated. I am also ticked since they are supposed to be in 1 gallon pots which obviously is not.

What would you do?

It should be 3 plants per lot. Weather 3 single plants or 3 together the seller should
mention how the plants will arrive.
If it's all grown in the same pot then I guess you will need to pull
apart or place them in grown and use as mother plant?
I saw a 10gal for $160 thinking about getting it locally.

I see they are from Florida, but never heard of this seller,
so I don't know who they are... or if they are legit.
Gotta say though, anyone who sells "herbal" snake oils,
I gotta kinda question... :)

I would email them and say that you bought them for a specific purpose,
the image that was provided allowed for this purpose... Then when they
arrived, it was something different and they are of no use. Could you
please send me the plants in the pics that I paid for, thanks.

Sir, I can't see the description since it's closed, but I'd be unhappy if the picture depicted 3 plants and I received 2. As an ebay seller and buyer, I'd like to say that ebay is in favor of the buyer. If the description didn't say 2 plants then you need to contact them (seller) ASAP. If they acquiesce, blame it on the hustle; spread the word here, and get your third shimp free of shipping. If they advertise 3, don't specify 2, and the seller is unwilling to compromise; contact ebay support, file a claim, wait forever but you will end up in the winner's circle. I buy everything online with a card that facilitates disputes...

Caveat Emptor !

That said, its a real kick in the ass though.

Most ebay sellers are too afraid of getting bad feedback to screw people. I'd contact the seller and ask for another unit, if you're ok with the size of the 2 you got. If you are unhappy with the size of the ones you got, I'd ask to send them back for full refund, and make them send me a shipping label so they pay for shipping back. If they don't pony up, then I'd contact again and tell them flat out that the feedback will be detailed and negative. After that, I'd contact ebay and let them fix it. It's not a grey area, it's obvious that the product has been misrepresented.

They look healthier than the listing photo, and the size seems close. Were they grown 3 to a can, or just wrapped together for shipping?

What everybody said, Dario. You didn't get what you were bidding on and purchased. The seller needs to make this right, period. Good luck fighting the good fight.

Contact the seller and eBay. Ebay has been known to give full refunds.

You a lover or a fighter!! They didn't send what they said they would send. I know what I'd do.

Thanks guys.

Brian, the plants do look healthy and I am happy with them but they are all grown together and the trunks are not even an inch apart each other. What are the chances of these surviving if separated now?

I contacted the seller, they responded and offered full refund BUT I have to pay return shipping (no later than 6/4). :( These lots just cost me $21.90 plus $15.95 combined shipping...pretty reasonable but not what I am expecting. I think it is unfair to spend and be out of the priority shipping cost for no fault on my part....but I want/need to keep these for my project. If they won't survive separation though, then they are useless to me.

I am torn.

They should be easy to separate, if done in the spring.
cuttings root easily too...they're all over my yard!

but...no doubt the seller misrepresented the product.

Thanks guys.

The seller wasn't up front with you concerning the purchase, and paying return shipping is unacceptable. I'd file a complaint through ebay...

I sell on ebay and in a couple of cases I have negotiated a partial refund with unhappy buyers. Nobody likes having a case opened against them. Maybe something like that could be worked out where you just keep them and get some money back?

Plus 1 on that. This is what they count on, for you not to want to pay $15 for nothing. Give them one more chance, tell them that they have to pay for shipping back, or you will contact ebay, and give them REALLY negative feedback.

Be a good consumer, don't let them get away with it. They prey on everyone, and the more they get away with, the more money is in their pockets.

have you tried pulling on one of the trunks to see how loose they are (or aren't)? Is it possible the they were just thrown into these pots recently for shipping?

ok so I looked at the pictures and see weeds in the pots. so probably not recently potted....

Thanks guys.

You are wise beyond your years, the chances of those doing good separating them is Extremely Bad at this point. Ship them pronto and consider another sight unseen lesson. I am telling you this from some rather expensive experience.:(

I contacted the seller and he told me these were from separate pots and just "bundled" before shipping. I checked and he is right (and I am mistaken). The roots are separate and looks like from 2" seedling pots (definitely no bigger than 4"). Not quite gallon sized ;) but the tree looks healthy so I turned down the offer for partial refund and decided to keep them.

Plants are now on their own little pots. I used the smaller pots (they fit 2" grow pots tightly w/o trimming any roots) and some chopped soda bottles :p. Reason for putting them in the small pots is to ease positioning for approach grafts later.

Hope I made the right choice. Now I wait and see if they survive.

Thanks for all the input guys!!!

you might want to move them up to 4 inch. you want them as free to grow as they can be when you do the graft.
