I think you give people way too much credit. Not only do I believe that people would pick it up and eat it, I think if you repeat your "stance" often enough they will be convinced they actually like it and come back for seconds. Heck, if you get some taking heads to get your stance into a party line, you could get the entire democrat or entire republican party believing in the magic tootsie rolls.
