Do Japanese bonsai "purists" consider chojubai bonsai?

Never really looked a whole lot at Chojubai (or Chaenomeles in general), but this thread got me curious so I looked at a bunch the other day... No offense to Chojubai growers and aficionados, those low rounded clump-planted mounds ain't really my thing, they don't really remind me of trees - just reminds me of a bunch of wild multiflora rose bushes in an old cow pasture...

But then I spied this root over rock from Taikan-ten '15 in one of Bjorn's vids tonight...

Now That! Me Likey!:D

Maybe Chojubai need a little more creativity than other plants to be a focal point in a display? The one above changed my mind! I might actually get one now.

As with a lot of fine things from Japan, I have had to take the time to appreciate them. Chojubai, I really like them just recently. They have a special form and pretty little flowers.
