Defoliating Elm

If you have dry air you can raise the humidity a very tiny small bit with an drip-tray and/or mist it once a week (also good for clean and dust-free green leaves).
 
I appreciate the limitations with living in a congested city. You know that it would do best outside but it seems like that may not be possible. I would encourage you to open that window whenever you can to get some circulation to it. The closer to outside conditions you get it, the happier it will be.
