Deciduous holly sex?

you got skills man, I like your style. the only initial critical thought that comes to mind is something isn't quite right with the apex, or leader, maybe its too long, but then again im not really so sure about that.

very nice and interesting tree.
Good eye! That was the first chop of the sacrificial leader. I wanted to see the berries last year in the new pot which really slows down the vegetative growth. This year I'm keeping them in separate bedrooms, cutting off the flowers and try to develop the crown some more.

That's nice! I'm trying to find a male too.

For my ilex... it's red sprite. I'll take a look at the site you posted, I can't find early flowering enough ones around here.
Hollymingle.com is fictious;). I was poking a little fun at the dating sites. Although.....now that you mention it......I think there maybe something to that. Maybe we should register the domain and start collecting male hollies.

Ya have to see it, something there that cannot be explained :P

Any update on this one? How's it doing this winter?
It's doing fine. I didn't let it berry last season so as to let it make more vegetative growth which developed the top more. Funny this post came up. I just came in from working on it. Light pruning and dealing with its large wounds.

Would love to see it :)

Here's the update. You can't really see a lot of difference in the top but there is better ramification there. I did turn the pot to its other side. I think it's a little more interesting.

Now that this tree has leafed out you can see how the crown has developed from 2016. 2017- I cut the flower bud off to allow only vegetative growth. I severely cut back her boyfriend this year, so I hope he puts out enough flowers to do his deed.

Nice thread! I ordered winterberry seeds and got them starting. Be a few years but I wanted to be sure I got makes and females for our landscape. As well as to have options for future bonsai.

I haven't seen Being There in years, but remember it as a profound and masterfully made (low-budget) movie. It is worth watching, and has been on our "rewatch" list for a while.

My description would be something like this:
A film where the innocence, honesty, and gardening analogies of a simple man are interpreted as philosophical and intellectual brilliance...

I love the Holly, too!

The roses will bloom in the spring if care is taken in the fall.
