Cut Paste Vs Wound Sealant ?

I have that same tube of sealant and I used it over the winter. It seems to work fine as far as I can tell, but it leaves dark spots wherever I put it. I'm sure it will wear off eventually but they are still there.

The putty has the advantage of looking better on the tree (usually).

So apparently the brown putty has a hormone to stimulate healing because it is meant for slow growing trees such as pine, azalea, and juniper while the grey does not have the hormone because it is meant for all other trees which are faster healing.

Any harm in putting the brown putty with the hormone on the faster healing tree like a Fukien Tea, Chinese Elm, or Ficus?
