Colorado’s Ceramics

I recently dove into ceramics. I am quickly falling in love with the work!

I am focusing on slab building. I am starting with unglazed rectangles. I am looking forward to progressing to ovals, hexagons, and mokkos. But first I need to learn the fundamentals.

Here are my first two containers. I don’t have a kiln so once they finish drying I’ll need to find a place to fire them. Advice and/or critiques welcome! @Pitoon @sorce @HorseloverFat

Bravo, your pots are very nice ! 👏
the #1 pot reminds me a particular japanese pot very difficult to find but very very nice to look at ->

You smashed it on this one, I'm glad it's coming together for you! Own glaze? Shop glaze? All the way down the feet as well, no guts no glory!

Thanks, Jeff! The dripping down the feet was a bit of a happy accident to be honest 😁

Custom mixed glaze or store bought?

These are all store bought glazes. I just don’t have the space/facilities to make my own glazes (yet). I am making all of these pots in a tiny room with just a small desk as my work place 🤣

It is a dream to have a real studio some day!

very nice pots. I have one suggestion... If you have to use gloves to get the pot out it is too hot to open the kiln. Sooner or later you will lose a pot to dunting.

That is a very rewarding compliment coming from you, Nao! Thank you for the feedback!

I had no idea about “dunting” but now I have looked it up and now I know. 😁

PRO TIP. If you like a certain bottled glaze and you want to make it yourself, you can pull up the EU SDS (edit: the Australia one is pretty good too) and they list all the ingredients. Not exactly but enough to start. So which purple is this? lol

*Jaw Drop*

This is great information. I was just thinking earlier today that it would be nice to know the ingredients of a glaze, so that a commercial glaze could be reproduced but “tweaked” to be even better for our purposes.

This purple glaze is Amaco ‘Copper Red’
