CM BONSAI——-My Garden Activities

The first and # 8 are the same….quite a rarity and also the tiny one I just planted is going to be a bushy one too…#3

Did the dwarf/elm spoken about in post 79 ever resume normal growth or is it still acting uniquely?

@cmeg1 Love how you're using gro-blocks for air layer. Just curious, how has that worked for you compared to sphagnum? I generally like to keep at least a thin layer to make contact with the cut site because of its enzymes and hormones, but i like how roots develop in rockwool, and without those enzymes I'm hoping it will perform just as well. The successes I've had with using gro-blocks for cuttings were inspired by you, and my success rates for cuttings have gone way up. I would like to try an air layer with rockwool(next sprint), just want to see if there is anything you do different to increase success rates.

Use a slightly larger block than you need……it works excellent……just anchor with wire…….keep moist….no plastic needed especially if in the shade.

THE SIBERIAN ELM ARE STARTING TO GET SOME GIRTH!

The last three pics are 10 days ago and have swelled up even more!

These will be cool next season…very fun to grow in the 3” delta blocks.
They can actually get by in their for quite awhile……a good two seasons.

@cmeg1 when rooting into rockwool, I believe you mentioned the importance of using RO or distilled water. Do you find the same when using it for air layers?
Thanks!

Yea is better..generally.Chlorine and hard water are not good rooters……No npk at all either, just rooting stimulants and ph corrected

OUTDOOR GROW UPDATE

All is nice.Siberian Elms are awesome. The meristem are active and rooting is abundant.Trunks are having another 2-3 months of growing!!!!
nice seeing a tall tree in the 3” grodan delta block. They can potentially grow very tall in these.
Possibly nearing 6 feet…….Delta blocks can provide this.

The Japanes Black Pine seedling cuttings are at 9 months !! This is 9 months of continuous growth😁
The couple smaller ones are about 6 months!!
They will get their dormant rest over the winter freeze and grow bigtime next season.
Like totally big-time for sure.

Asesome branching on them……the two smaller ones are between 7-15 branches apiece……amazing grow projects…very fun.

THE SIBERIAN ELMS WOULD GROUND LAYER IN TWO WEEKS FOR SURE!!

These have been fertilized a 1:1 ratio motherplant formula loaded with rooting bio-stimulant and amino acids at quite a low EC.
averging around .8 ec for the last month or so.

Dispite their gangly seedling appearance they are brimming with natural rooting hormones and elevated naturally occuring phopherous uptake by means of regulating nitrogen assimilation and conserving their photosythetic energy.

LOOK AT THE ROOTS NEARLY SPROUTING HERE AND THERE AT THE BASE OF THEIR TRUNKS!!!!

GETTING READY TO SEW THE PINE SEEDS IN TWO WEEKS!!

So I can plant the trays of cuttings quickly and in one go this season I made a larger quantity rooting dipper. The last one had 20 dipping holes…..This one has 72 holes to root and entire flat at a time….IMG_4896.jpeg

I HAVE ACTUALLY DECIDED TO SEW THE SEED TODAY…..ONLY FOUR WEEKS EARLY SO ALL WILL BE WELL……….CAN HAVE SOME EXTRA TIME FOR ROOT STARTER PHASE THIS WAY IN EARLY VEG.

I will post pics later after I get perlite and seed flats this morning.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is the idea behind this?
My apologies if this has already been discussed. If it has, I was unable to locate the thread.
I use dip&gro @ 10x strength and for a 5 minute dip for the rooting of the seedling cuttings……..to dip one cutting at a time for 5 minutes would be horendous.IMG_5530.jpegIMG_8858.jpegIMG_2028.jpeg

THE PINE SEEDS ARE SEWN AND THE RESEVOIR IS FILLING WITH RO WATER.

These should be fine.I can make the cuttings from these in a couple weeks or so……….I noticed in pictures that last years crop was started 10 weeks too early……hense the deep shading and loss of about 70% of last seasons crop.

Also these need to be started all at once….or you will experiance even more loss from differing watering requirements….can be an epic fail in stonewool. And also to be able to grow them and exploit each of the specific stages of growth from seedling to late veg to achieve their full genetic potential!
