Now it's sitting on my bench this morning, with a new pair of Koyo shoes.
Great tree! It could work as either 3 or 4 trunks. I'm wondering if letting the smallest trunk grow out a bit and get some height might help. Congrats on a sweet pick up!The other side is a nice front, but the overall image is better from this side, the branching is amazing from my chosen front. Here is a photo of the back.
I really like the form with 4 trunks. It's one of the things that for me set this tree apart from the norm. I think it's also part of what gives the clump so much character. The bark is sooo good.

yes, probably. It has a small twig going up that way, but it was too straight up off the top of the trunk. I cut it back to the first leaf pair. I'll encourage it to grow out and then up, and make this one taller.I'm wondering if letting the smallest trunk grow out a bit and get some height might help
Yes KH. I imagine you are right LOL about some people and their aversion to even numbered trunks. I thought about it for precisely 2 seconds...Congrats! I know you were looking at this one for a while. Very nice tree, to me it looks better in your pics than I thought it would from the pics on Don's site. Curious to see the branch structure in winter. The 4 trunks don't bother me, though I know they must make some purists cringe.
Is it a korean hornbeam?

I love that it's quirky! Can't imagine it with only three trunks. I'm glad your keeping all the trunks. Embrace it and love it...it's an amazing clump!I agree that it would make a really nice 3 trunker. But I'm always drawn to trees that have a slight quirk or oddness to them. I "see" them more than the perfect tree, although I love perfect trees, my eye and mind find the difference more interesting.
