It has some movement down low. I am letting the top just grow because it will be chopped.Impressive growth. Have you put any movement into that new leader?
Good deal. Down low near the chop was what I meant. It has some movement down low. I am letting the top just grow because it will be chopped.
How necessary is it to wire it? Each time I chop, the tree has natural movement because of the chop. My only plan is to wire the next leader candidate.Good deal. Down low near the chop was what I meant.
I've been watching that thread of yours to find out when you will do the chop you have been talking about. My next chop as measured will be about 2.75" from the previous chop. There is an internode in between that I leave for branches or perhaps for changing my mind and chop lower.I guess it depends on how far up the leader the next chop will be. Just as an example here is my oak - I wired that movement into the leader about 6 years ago. I wish I would have chopped it again about half way up to get rid of that long taperless section but it would still have benefitted from the wire had I done that because it would have a nice curve between the chops.
I think I've been talked out of chopping it again (at least for now). Current plan is to let the branches run and keep the top severely pruned back to see if I can balance it out a little better.I've been watching that thread of yours to find out when you will do the chop you have been talking about.
