[Paradox]

I've had weeds grow in gravel with weed barrier under it. The weeds didn't come through the barrier. The seeds landed in the gravel and all that watering, they grew.

Then there was one of my dogs that thought the gravel area was his own personal litter box

I am dreaming of a serene bonsai garden with lots of bald cypress circling a koi pond and a sitting area partly in the shade with deciduous trees all around. Until I am able to get to the property and get more pictures and have a sense of the surroundings, I can't really form a plan yet.

A pond would be great for dragonflies and frogs. Dragonflies for mosquitoes, and frogs for other bugs and slugs.

I know you like to look at your trees, if you tucked the pond in between the patio area and that one existing tree, that would allow you to put your more developed trees close to the pond and patio while the less developed ones could go on the north side perimeter and shade loving ones could go to the south side.

Somehow I missed this thread back in July. It's great that your patio will be in the shade in the afternoon. The orientation of your future house couldn't be better.
