Carving project

Nice tree. Never heard of drantra, is that the common name?

What do you use to do the carving? Do you use wood hardener?
Joe

Joe, I have just been using a dremel with various bits, on this one...
Haven't used wood hardner on it, because wood is so hard, and I do want it to rot a bit.
To make my carving look more natural.

I may be telling you something you have already considered but in case you were not aware of it the over all hardness of the wood is no guarantee of how well it will hold up exposed to the weather. My point is that you may at some point in the future consider some sort of preservative to prevent further decomp once the action of nature has given you the effect you desire.

I tell you this because I have worked with various varieties of wood all of my life and have seen some really hard wood magically disolve almost over night. I would hate to see your work destroyed by the same that destroys us all,---- time.

Cool, maybe it can be worthwhile to grow Bonsai in Florida. Hehe

Just came across this-that's a very good looking plant-plenty of dew drops around here (in the ground) I've never seen one bonsai'ed- Any idea how old that tree is? You mentioned that the flowers/fruit aren't part of the plan-is that because you keep it trimmed back?

What do you use as a preservative? At what point do you apply it? Might sound noobish but input greatly appreciated:)

green sheets

Nice tree and great material. there is so much out there to take advantage of here in the US for bonsai.
How can I get some info on getting a copy of "green sheets 2"? I wasn't ever able to locate a copy of the first one. Any info would be great!

MenWax wood hardener is about the only product out there that seems to be OK to use on a living tree.
