There's a difference in red dinoflagellates (an algae) and this brown macro algae (a seaweed).
Both cause respiratory issues though, and both can cause dead fish, but smell and look totally different themselves.
I understand this seaweed is already coming ashore in Ft Lauderdale just ahead of Spring break, but not at peak levels yet.
The red tide already seen in Naples, FL 3 weeks ago. It appears both can affect the waters at the same time then.
