Capinus Clump/Multi-trunk

I know I said I wouldn't be buying more trees, but couldn't help myself
I bought 6 Hornbeam hedging plants at £28. With the idea to clump them together. Ive tried this before in winter and the plants didnt wake up. These are much healthier, thicker, better roots.

I planted them on a tile and have them all flat, they all contribute to some decent flare, after cutting out some tap roots.
Was very tricky tieing them together, used wire and zip ties. Will top up the soil.

Did you skin the bark where they meet together to try to get them to bond? Looks like a nice variety of sizes and shapes.

Ive used some bits of wood to help position the trunks, spread them, give a bit more depth


Will just allow it to grow out now. No more cutting. Let the roots take hold. Should be some good bones there to do some styling over winter..

Hi Judy, nope those were just nobbles I removed to help the trunks sit more flush. Im not really hoping that they fuse or bond, but just become flush, im going for a fluted feel.
