Bought a Mulberry... now what?

Nice. I have a morus rubra coming in a week or so, whole new world for me. Any tips?
Very hardy. Its growth is a bit coarse and although they have lots of buds along branches I am yet to find a way to make them all open up and extend as shoots. They wake up early from winter and put some growth. Then they stop and invest their energy on the fruit. They seem to stay like that the whole year if not stimulated otherwise. Not very good at rolling over wounds. At least in a bonsai pot.

Thanks, very helpful.

Uff this needs an update.
This year there were some set backs. First, the pot fell (pulled by a neighbour’s cat) in June and cracked. It also broke one branch. After reporting into a new pot it grew well. Second, while on vacations, a swarm of caterpillar ate all its leaves. After dealing with the problem, it recovered well. These guys are really tough.
This is where it’s at showing some fall colour.

Did the large cut try to heal?

Not really. Very minimal healing.
Mine too. Smaller, but seems like it spends energy healing upper wounds, wondering if some species need to just grow all the way out to work on it.
