Akadama straight up for this one. I have used Kanuma in beech before, it does have some good qualities that beech like.
I may have gotten it from him, but it's just as likely that I got it from MattyO. It's Shuho, and works well I think too.

The tree before and after wiring, may still move the apex down a bit more, but in person, it looks like a starting point. I have had excellent luck with getting inner buds on this tree and am excited to see it in another couple years as it gains more weight on the main branches. I still have some wiring to do on the tiny branches that are currently moving straight up.

I can see that I'll need to make some changes to the base and the nebari, I'm going to have to see if there is anything really to work with, and do some grafting probably. Anyone had any luck grafting roots onto beech?

Thanks, it's really developing faster than I expected, there are tons of small inner new branches. I will have to be judicious about what I keep as it'll be too dense if I keep it all.
