Anyone have photos to show progress of a stick in a pot?

Oh wow! Yeah you will have the ultimate sereis!

This was surprising to me! I had no idea it would be that fast from a seed.
I also have no idea why if a tree can do this in a single season why it seems to slow down so much thereafter! :p

Bonsai Today #71 shows how to grow the zelkova from seed.I am starting loads more this spring.

Hi Amy,
Just a heads up since you are in La Crescenta, there is a small bonsai shop/nursery just behind the Wienerschnitzel on Foothill. No joke!! It is not as big as Fuji or Kimura but if you are close it is worth a walk through. I can't remember the name of it though. He has pots and supplies also.

From Pennsylvania there's a sign that just says bonsai in English with an arrow. I've driven by a couple times and wanted to pull in but the timing's been off. I couldn't see a thing from the street. I'll be sure to stop by! Thanks! I was hoping to stop by Fuji on Monday; finally a day off!

Dario posted a link to this place some time ago, turns out we bought a pile of bald cypress from them(seedlings) a year ago. They have very good service and really nice plants. Here is a link to their JBP Pine seedlings, it would save you a minimum od a year and not expensive.

it looks even better now..

I don't have any progressions where the initial material was a stick. However, one of the most inspirational works in regards to this thread would probably be this progression. It is an old progression from Suthin Sukosolvisit. It is a Japanese maple. It is an 8 year progression.

This tree looks familiar to me, did you get it at the Dallas club's auction a few years back? If so, then it's a tree that I regretted not buying at the price it went for. It has put on some serious growth since then, have you had it in the ground? How does it handle the summer heat and winter cold in Plano?

It's not a progression, but they are definitely 3 sticks! ^^I wanted to share my acquisitions from yesterday so here it is!

Callicarpa, prunus sakura and ilex serrata, none of which I had earlier. Callicarpa can make some decent bonsai. Here is a good example:

And the purple fruits are awesome!! So now let's be patient! I'm glad I'm not alone to watch my sticks grow

Many of my pictures were on an old computer that crashed and many many of my past sticks are in stick heaven now. I will try to find some that show some progress however. While I do enjoy growing out the little ones it is totally separate than getting a "bonsai". The truth is getting a convincing bonsai from a stick will take many, many years and may never happen if it is in a pot as the pot will restrict the growth necessary to do the work you are after in many cases.

Don't let that discourage you from growing trees from seeds, cuttings and starter plants. I have gobs of fun doing this. :D

All I have are either sticks growing thicker or collected material that was already pretty large when it was collected, but I think Harry Harrington's progression of a pencil thick cutting in 2002 to full-blown bonsai in 2011 is a pretty good one.

This is a good reason for you, or anyone else for that matter, to obtain a portable hard drive to back up their images away from the hard drive on the computer. Windows systems are notoriously prone to doing this leaving you with nothing to show for years of work.

Seagate, Maxtor, and G-Trechnologys all make several good options that have memories of to three Tera Bites. Also you can subscribe to some sort of Cloud technology and store your files off line. I do not do this, I don't trust people and I don't trust a government that demonstrates a willingness to access people's personal files regardless of the policies of the companies you, me, or someone else may contract to take care of their personal information;.
