American Bonsai Potters

Oh and peep what patience popped a Playa off with!

View attachment 166750

Found it on my way to work.
The whole pile was so new it still had blue sticky paper and shipping tags!
Outside of a Rush Hospital building.
I didn't even know if it was scrap so I had to get to asking people....dude must have went in and asked the workers Cuz they came out and said I could take it!

Still gotta hook up my electrical....

And after 2 months...

Still waiting for things to get closer to bone dry.

GNF!

Bonsai has me Crazy patient!

I've got the itch to give it a try, but I need to move to a much bigger place with an outdoor area. That should be remedied in less than a year when I make the move back down south. I'm afraid making pottery would turn into a full time obsession for me. Studying and collecting bonsai pottery already consumes a lot of my time - I can't imagine what my house would look like if I started making pots. I'm sure making ceramics takes as much patience and skill as manipulating the little trees that go in them. I'm always excited to see what new potters start putting out. It really is an exciting time in American bonsai!

Yeah... I was wondering how you haven't.

Wait till your ready!

Do any of these potters make huge bonsai pots or anyone know where to purchase them? I'm talking 2 - 4 foot wide pots. Would have to be a pretty large kiln.

That's a really tall order. I'm not sure I've seen any retail pots that size. I've seen a few huge ones in custom displays, but nothing like that on a shelf for sale. I'm not even sure how someone would fire a 4-foot pot without an industrial kiln - maybe wood firing one if there's enough kiln space? You looking at glazed or unglazed?

I have some Chinese pots in that size range up at the nursery in Thousand Oaks - pm me if you want to discuss them :)

I will probably need both glazed and unglazed. I've got a few huge trees that have been sitting in wooden boxes until I find the right containers.

@thams you got this bro....just get that other 5ft3 rented next fire!

@markatulio not to take away anything with Colin Frasier, contrary, I'm sure he'll take excellent care of your needs.

But at this point......
I would be considering the fact that yoire going to be using machinery (or clever ass levers) to be moving these regardless of material....

So I wonder if considering Concrete pots wouldn't offer you more style options.

Either way.

In about 3-5 years, I should be able to rock some shit like that for you.

That's when my Wood Fire Chop goes into use.
When shit gets real.

Since I'm not interested in having a hernia mesh after transplanting these big guys, I'm having a custom gantry crane welded. I'm certainly not opposed to concrete. Expect me to come knocking in 3-5 years sorce. I'm not done collecting large trees.

You gotta stop with the extra "i" man, its Fraser . . .

<LOL>

What's in a name?

To me, it sounded rather familiar, but never thought it could be of French origin until I saw it written with an "i":

Meaning of Fraser: "strawberry" Origin of Fraser: Scottish from French
Though TV's "Frasier" made the name famous, and Frazier is a well-used variation, Fraser is the original, used mostly in Scotland.

Actually, strawberry is "fraise", the plant is "fraisier".

A very savoury name.

We still have a lot of "Duchêne - Duchesne" (Oak), "Ducharme" (hornbeam), "Fayard, Faye, Faux,..." (Beech), "Poirier" (pear-tree), Pommier (apple-tree, like Dickson Despommiers), etc. but "Fraisier" as afamily name is very rare in France now:

On the same site, I found more occurences of "Fraser" (100 compared to 77), with a different etymology: catalan, from germanic "fridhere", people of peace. It might seem surprising that most "frasers" are in the north of France, but, 1st "Pas-de-Calais" was the last English territory in France, and 2, Belgium was long a spanish colony, so this could explain why a catalan name has survived there.

Anyway, it was fun to try and find the sorce.

Sorry, the source.

And blimey! There are more Sorces in France than Frasers! Blows my mind, I just can't believe it...

It's like when people put a "u" that doesn't belong there in Sorce . . . or "reporting" our trees ;)

I think I've told everyone but @Steve C about the U! I cant bring myself to cuss out Steve C!

Mr. Strawberry Stash Bash!

I am sincerely sorry, cuz I hate that shit!

But @coli gets you to the only one there, I never Needed to know the rest!

Expect me to come knocking in 3-5 years sorce

Fully!

I already got 2 more Hundred dollar Kilns to pick up, shit, $100-0$ .....

That alone is going to be enough to get a 2 or three footer fired!

I'm gonna end up with free firewood posts alerts on my phone......
Snatching em all up.

Hell yeah. It was about a year ago that my wood fired kiln plans were adjusted to reality, not gonna happen here.
Now with reasonable goals and a clear path....

Hell fire!

Hell fire!

Never even noticed that to be honest, and I'd been talking to ya for what, 3-4 years LOL. Just seems natural to put the U in there since that's the proper spelling of Source so that's where my mind goes and finger type :) . Okay now you have to explain to me what the meaning of sorce is because now ya got me wondering?

You should alpabetize this list and post it up in the Resources section for easy access to everyone. Otherwise it will get buried.

I'm not sure I have the fortitude to duplicate the list elsewhere besides the website. I have trouble enough finding time to update the website regularly - I still have about 10 more entries to enter, but just haven't had the time.
