Are you allowing the wire to bite in on purpose to create some swelling?

It could make an interesting effect. Was the plan to leave the wire permanently and let the trunk grow around it?Yes, that was my initial plan anyway but now seeing it play out I’m having second thoughts. I may remove it soon.

Ah gotcha. That might look pretty cool. No, I was going to let it really cut in and then remove and use the indentation as a shari with the live vein spiraling around it. Trying to imitate the spiraling yamadori look.
Do I need to apply any putty or lime sulfur to the area I remove from the knuckle? I was thinking about doing it today.Agreed. That is how the first one ate it. I have taken off 2 to 3 minor branches each year but that is all. No decandle or bud selection. It gets fed and burped, just need to buy a bib and pacifier for this big baby. Hopefully it doesn't get upset after I carve that knuckle out in July.

That's a great progression! What time of year did you repot in 2020, spring? Then when did you style it in 2021, late summer?2020
