I can see tiny little black tips on the small leaves currently unfurling on the maple.. very worried.
Was hoping @Smoke was just a bit wrong on this one but I know that’s a rarity!
I think I’m gonna put it in shade for now, whatever may or may not be afflicting it, there’s no changing it now.
I did treat with fungicide a few times this year but I should have done it more regularly. All the problems this has had for past 2 years, I just hoped it would grow healthy for a change..
Well, nothing now but to see and hope it grows well enough to keep branches alive.
The standard for me is spray with fungicide every fortnight, would increasing that to weekly, have any benefit? I would think not.

spray with a systemic fungicide ("roses illnesses" kind) not really big deal if first leaves are damaged, what ultimately matters is the node) but you need to avoid the stems from drying, normal growth should resume shortly afterwards, got that often on young summer shoots

This crap kind of makes me glad I can't grow Japanese Maples here.
Well, thanks. That boasts my mood a bit! Whether you are wrong or right, doesn’t change the outcome so even if it’s false hope, I’m ok with that!
I use 2 fungicides, both directed for roses so at least I believe I’m on the right stuff!
I sprayed with the concentrate diluted, a few days ago. I’ll use the Rose Clear maybe tonight, both are systemic I believe.
Then wait 2 weeks and apply again.
Avoid stems from DRYING or DYING?
It’s good hot weather at the moment so it’s in shade.
Yeah, it’s been by far the most frustrating species so far, but after all the time I’ve had it, I’m so eager to turn it in to a great tree... I don’t think I could pass by Maple trees on my Bonsai journey. They are just too great looking to not try my hand.
Just makes me think I need to be on look out and buy more, good ones.

Have you thought of trying acer pseudosieboldianum, Korean/Purplebloom maple? I grew them in zone 4 Wyoming with no problem and reportedly they may be hardy into zone 3. A new series of hybrids has also recently been released called the "Jack Frost Series". They are crosses between palmatum and pseudosieboldianum. I also grew acer shirasawanum 'Palmatifolium' in the same garden and it didn't blink either. These were growing in the ground as landscape plants and not bonsai however.

Connor, it's very delicate new growth for sun strength we've had for the last few days. Give it shade untill it gets going. It's still fine though pal. There not crisping totaly and falling off are they?
Not as far as I know and yes that’s exactly why I moved in to full shade
, glad to know I wasn’t being silly and was right to do so!It’s looking frazzled and new growth is fried but it’s there.
Will get you a pic later, I keep coming home once it’s dark so can’t get a proper pic.
Frizzled is the word.. leaves actually not bad. Yes the tips are bad but leaves themselves are good colour and most fully formed.

Are you not watering it everyday its 32° here im watering my maples twice a dayI’ve been not looking for a few days. If I look too often, nothing happens lol.

Of course I am lol. As I’m watering everything, even the oak that’s in mostly organic, needs it everyday.
I just put some chopped sphagnum on top of my newer elm and pyracantha as they are in shallow pots and dry extremely quick.
Honestly I think the health of my Pyracantha has decreased a bit due to lack of water. So hopefully the moss will fix that.
The maple has barely any perspiration due to lack of leaves at the moment so it’s not drinking much.
My 3 other pyracantha and olive are in the full force of the sun all day, all week and they are amazing.. the colour of leaves from my elm are so super grow. I gotta do pics later, just so enjoyable to see.

I’m not so sure about that but thanks for the positive thoughts. The maple is not looking good, I’d rather get those shoots extending and some healthier leaves popping, then I’ll feel better.. but something I noticed a min ago... 2 or 3 buds popping right down the trunk.. like, completely out of the oldest part of the tree, at bottom. Big red buds!
That’s a great sign, in my opinion, of health. Maybe I’m wrong?

No, you're right. It's a sign the sap is circulating, the roots are doing their job. Some of the buds that have twisted leaves may die, but most of them will develop. When the new leaves look OK, you can remove some of the new shoots that you think you won't use.
Be patient: with the big chops you've done, it can take a couple of years before you can really "shape" it. At least that's what I think

New Summer growth tends to do this sometimes. You have center leads on the buds which is important to see. I think your maple is fine. Get yourself more trees!
