A walk in the forest

I few weeks ago I was walking through the forest.
As a bonsai enthuziast I took a few pics
Tree 1

It could be a beautiful literati. Can’t figure out the species.
Also could be very difficult to collect.
Tree 2

This fagus broke maybe in a storm and new grouth started.
Its 10cm diameter at the base and around 40cm in height.
Easy to collect maybe next spring.

In a few weeks I will go for another hike and I will take some better pics.

Do the same, but along the highway and side roads.
The folk who clean, chop everything in sight.
So we look for stumps and seedlings.

With stumps we look for the ability to heal well.
Not continuous rotting.
Find gems.

Still unidentified - but dug up as a 3 inch stump, heals exceptionally well

The first one looks like a maple - Acer pseudoplatanus, not a best bonsai candidate due to its leaf size. The second one... why to collect already decaying trunk if the rest is nothing extra?

I have to agree on that rotted trunk...but...

Welcome to Crazy!

If you can clean it up in situ and find some fresh....you can leave it for 10 years and revisit it then. Maybe it will have defined its healthy future as bonsai.
