Ok its was 20 below zero this morning so I decided to stay home. I wired this semi-lame larch. See before and after pictures. No impressive changes just minor wiring. Need to get it in a small pot to slow it down and start developing the rootage which probably sucks. I have always liked the little tree for its funny deadwood and reasonable bark.

I think it does not suck. There are some real possibilities. How tall is it? (A pic with a pop can for scale works)

I also like the dead apex. 20 below is cold... is that with windchill???

It is certainly not lame. I wish I had some trees to work on at this time of year. Have you ever layered larch to develop rootage?

Probably not w/ w chill. It's Minnasota don'tcha know.

Crust it aint a Nick master piece but it can be a decent tree. I guess I expected a bent over floppy tree from the title, but this can be a "good" bonsai.

Nice job Crust, doing bonsai in the heart of winter like a champ. I think the balance would be improved if you tilted it to the right a bit, but it could also just be an artifact of the angle of photography.

I agree it is good stock with a great start. I like the first picture as the front much better as the second shows reverse taper and less movement. A bit of work on the deadwood, and a nice pot and you should have yourself a winner.

No thats just flat 20 below and now that my wheel bearing went out I will be home for the week end so hopefully more trees will get preped.

The photos are random placements and the tree has been in a regular flower pot for a few years. I only wired it and stripped the top three years back otherwise it was a collected boner larch that I emburdened myself with which will be essentially unchangeable unless perhaps I can encorporate it in a tray with other enegmatic, lower branchless, non-taperous trees.

Nice job Crust, doing bonsai in the heart of winter like a champ. My goal is this year to be ready for spring and have all the fine wiring done on the larches and decidious plus have containers ready which I will have to make. Three years of being away from my trees is a long time and now I have alot of catching up to do. My lovely woman dutifly watered them, put on biogold and did maintenance pruning (she called it "pulling poney tails" onm the larches). She also cleaned them and put them away but no repotting or wiring so, oh boy, I have 140 trees to do--many which or pretty rootbound.

3 years away, and you have 140 living trees?? That's some amazing duty that she took care of! :)

I with Judy on this one..HOLY CRAP.

Very nice tree. I'm excited to see some future pictures of where you take this.
