ok...I've been thinking about this since I got the load of lace rock...and perhaps even before. I've always been a rock planting and landscape kind of guy and I have admired the Penjing style mountain landscape plantings that I have seen in photos. Never really thought I would have have any stone do anything comparable....

I am using an old concrete patio table on a 1000 lb turntable...I think I have well exceeded its limits:)

And maybe a video will do it the most just....

At this point the stones are just fitted together as in a 3d jigsaw puzzle....I only spent about an hour and a half piecing it together. I need to count for sure but I think there are about 12-15 stones used to build the main structure.

Currently it is amazingly stable and I think would survive for years as is.... I suspect it will become even more stable after being planted and the interior spaces filled(I would like to use pumice).

I do plan to plant it but I will take my time and spend a year or more getting the material right....I am sure I will also refine the stones in the mean time. I'm thinking a very mixed planting at this point.

It's never going anywhere! Hopefully:)

I think the table top is 42", could be 36 i need to measure....and the tallest peak is about 3' off the table.

Wow!!! After seeing some of your other work (how good you are with moss, trees, and scale) I have no doubt this will lend itself to something spectacular/majestic...can't wait!

How did you get pieces like that? It's so perfect it looks like a pre-fabricated kit

Thanks....Just lucky I guess...having enough stone to choose from is important....I need more small interesting pieces.

Very nice. All the stone blends well and the underlying table is not intrusive. Have you considered inoculating the stone with moss now? Giving it more time to colonize while you continue to play around with the rock. Right now you need some miniature action figures. It looks like a scene from a Hi Sci movie.

Ummm..Sci Fi. Damn those acronyms!

Woah!! That's one heck of a project. I'm absolutely amazed at how well the stone pieces fir together as if they were cut to fit together. I guess I'll probably never see the completed "mountain" in Asheville...you're going have to invite me back to visit, I guess;). Looking forward to updates.

John, that will be amazing! It already is.

WOW!! That is one back breaker of a job!! Looks really cool already...

Thanks Dave! You are welcome anytime!

Looks great John ! What type of trees are you thinking about planting ?

Not sure yet...as I have been looking this afternoon I'm wondering about the scale....I think the trees will need to be very small...maybe 3-4" at most...

What size trees do you see in this composition?

Incredible. Do you have an actual landscape in mind that is your inspiration, or are you going to let your imagination take you where it may?

Thanks Beth...no actual inspiration this time....we will just see what happens:)

Boxwoods might make a nice addition too. Going for a mp nice broad leaf to evergreen as you go up the mountain.. That kind of mix.
