Bonsainut,

May I respectfully suggest that you visit the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum. They are a very active and informative forum with a zero tolerance no politics or religion policy. Violators get warned then banned if they persist. I think it would be nice if you would consider this policy.

I love bonsai, talking about bonsai, looking at bonsai. Being subjected to people who thinks we need to be aware of their political views often ruins the experience of this forum. There are plenty of other places for people so inclined to argue politics. ( I know about and use the "ignore" option, but he problem with that is sometimes the political evangelists have something worthwhile to contribute about bonsai that I'd like to see.)

In my opinion...this place has been functioning pretty well since a certain change was made. I would hate to see that kind of stuff creep back into the forum. I come here for bonsai, I have no need or desire to know anything about anyone's political views. Get more than enough of that elsewhere.

Chris

I took the bait hook, line and sinker. With the title, I thought your post was going to be about large bonsai eating baby bonsai or something along those lines. While that would have made a more interesting story, I do agree that we need to keep politics and religion out of this forum. There are plenty of other places one can "discuss" those topics.

You picked up on that pretty Swiftly.

Do you have a Martin guitar ?

Used to. Traded down to finance more bonsai. ;)Now I've got a Takemine 12 and a couple of Chinese clones (Blueridge) that are actually pretty nice guitars for the price.

I was trying to learn how to play classical guitar about 10 years ago, but it caused problems with my finger joints so I had to give it up. Actually built my own guitar (for the most part, had a pro cut the fretboard), it came out pretty well considering how bad I am at woodworking. Wish I could play...still thinking about getting an electric one since those seem to be easier on the fingers.

I play classical, 2-3 hours everyday. After electric and acoustic for 20 years classical does something for me those others never did. Highly recommend it - the only down side is that almost nobody wants to hear you play.

Nobody wants to hear me play anyway. :( Except my African Gray parrot, Delmar. He sings along and keeps time by tapping his foot.

Amazing, this is the first post I have seen in months here about religion or politics. Whats the deal? I guess somebody needs something to complain about, does that Martin Guitar site have a policy about people who need to complain when there is nothing to complain about.......

My number one fan is my sisters English Springer spaniel. She will lay down and watch/listen to me play for hours.

There was an old Martin guitar magazine ad. It showed a guy on a couch. The caption said something to the effect of...after 20 years I figured it wouldn't be worth anything to brag about how good I was at drinking.

No Martin for me, but I do have a Gibson. No chance of selling for Bonsai materials...use it too much!

I was motivated by the responses to Vance's Grand Canyon Photos. They were inappropriate in my opinion.

More appropriate for this forum...
I trimmed and wired some bonsai today. Deciduous trees are starting to turn fall colors. What going on with your bonsai?

This is funny...

You claim to not want to hear political talk at a bonsai forum,
a view that I myself would have to agree totally with you on...

But,

when Vance posted a thread regarding a "Political Discussion",
you say that he received "inappropriate" responses...
Go figure ???

As a member of this forum I have the right to post my views just
as anyone else does... I didn't open up the can of worms, I didn't
start the political discussion... I merely responded to a post that
was clearly meant to cause trouble... The whole premise of the thread
was how the government shutdown the Grand Canyon. So... Vance
is in the right for posting it, knowing very well that there were going to
be others who didn't hold the same views as him... but I am in the wrong
for commenting on what he had posted ??? This makes a ton of sense...

If you don't want political talk here... I am with you... and would be
happy to never see it again. But you should at least figure out what
the reality is before you go forming opinions... and going off to form
other threads to talk crap about people, especially when you don't really
know what you are talking about... I got kicked off of B-Nut for trying to
get rid of all this...
What have you done ???

Great, now we have a place to air all the grievences.

I wish to add to the discussion by saying I am sick and tired and fed up with the bantor about guitars, sticks in pots disguised as bonsai, people buying crappy trees and coming here asking for a way to make it into something when they havn't even tried...

Discussion about scrolls with poems on them, pictures of trees in nature that aren't bonsai, a quintillion discussions about kitty litter and the next great thing that will replace akadama for 5.00 a bag, the guy that wants a 2 inch trunked trident maple for 12.00. Any more pictures of some guy in a thong and pictures of your stupid vacation.

I don't wish to read anymore about anyones sorrow about cancer, or how it may affect your family. If I read one more post about throwing a dead tree into a kiln and its effects on glaze my head may explode.

Why in the hell anyone comes here to show a wooden stand or some rock thingy so it can sit on a table is just wasting bandwidth, and if I have to look at one more picture of someones back yard I may ralph on my keyboard.

None of this has anything to do with showing masterpiece trees here and I am sick of it.

I think I am done.....for now.

For more reading catch my seventh book, "Power Lines, Liar, Liar Trees on Fire"
