2016 Shohin Seminar - California Shohin Society

Depends on why your going. You can drink anywhere but this only comes once every other year....

Is there anywhere that says what the workshops are and how much they cost? I've never attended one of these but sounds interesting. I have attended many GSBF shows and registration is pretty clear I'm confused about this one. Any help?

Here is a link to the instructions. Because the workshop instructors are volunteering, the workshop cost is very low (you are only paying for the cost of the material). Therefore demand is very high... and the workshop attendance is determined based on lottery. You basically sign up for as many workshops as you are interested in, and there is a drawing to determine which ones you get into :)

Here is the workshop schedule.

Sadly, I just looked at the instructions, and it appears that the workshop requests needed to be in by December 20. I would send a message to Al Keppeler (bonsainut name "Smoke") to see if he can help you out with a list of open / unfilled workshops.

The lottery is held on New Years Day. All the workshops are filled and if any after all is done that day with all the full registrations then they do Saturday only workshops requests. If any workshops remain unfilled on new years day they are put on a large grease board at the registration entrance and can be filled there by first come first served. There is no way of knowing until Saturday morning or possibly Friday morning (of the event) depending on how many people try and register and keep the staff busy. I have never seen a workshop go unfilled.

When I did the trident workshop four years ago, there were three spots not filled. Saturday morning when they seen the material there was a new lottery out side the workshop and a couple that had bought the spots and then sold them on the sidewalk....true story.

Hey, @michaelj or anyone else thinking about attending - I've got a room with 2 doubles at the Motel 6 in Santa Nella Thursday through Saturday night. I'd be open to splitting the cost for one or more nights if someone's looking for a place to crash and doesn't mind double occupancy. Send me a PM if you want to try and coordinate something and save us both a few bucks.

Okay.
I am in love--strike that
I am in lust--strike that
All right I am in a more than passing case of infatuation.
. . . the tree in the very bottom position of
post #6; Manzanita? Too pretty.
Whose was it? are they a member?
Would love to see it now.
I think the Manz belonged to Greg Brendon. I had a picture of it at a Boon Exhibit somewhere.

It was this one, but I think this is a much larger specimen. I know this one was dug by Greg. Not the same. If this is a Greg tree, he is a member here. I see him on the forum from time to time , lurking. He is a passionate guy. I have met him before, lets just say he is an Al clone.

Its lovely but in the first one it looked like they were heading in a recumbent trunk literati
direction with it and I was really curious how that had all worked out.`

Oh I guarantee he will see me. I tend to be really flourescent.

Lot going on is an understatement. Since my last paragraph about my wife she has developed two more tumors on her liver and two on her brain. Now they are ready to ship her to San Francisco for the cyber knife. So far $3,960.00 co pay for the chemo pills taken. Tomorrow she starts some injection in her tushy blocking estrogen to starve the cancer.

I'll even have a tree in the display! Here she was Saturday on a trip to Sonora and the gold rush ghost towns.

It's Thursday, and I'm in Santa Nella - what an . . . let's go with "interesting" . . . little place. I rode up with a vendor I'll be helping out all weekend. There's already plenty of good stuff set up, and more is sure to arrive tomorrow!

I'll be there Saturdy morning for sure. Sprung for a super swanky Santa Nella hotel room at the Quality Inn ;) I'll be the bearded young hipster looking guy spending too much money...
