maybe a multi-trunk with one cascading....but not multiple cascades...

Damn Memory failure  I did remember how incorrect but yet beautiful! :)

while it was still in a pot and before it went on the stone...all anyone could say was cut off that cascading branch...

@Jarath had indicated it was a special gift and everyone was indeed quick to suggest cutting both  I am thankful that you replied with the great picture - now I am hopeful he will really take his time and have what might be considered a great plant no matter how outside of the cutter it is. I don't like a lot of the "exotic" styling but there, to me at least, is a fine line between the two and you did great!

I joined Suncoast bonsai society. We meet every 4th saturday. We have been asked to bring in our trees to work on them. I mentioned to a few of the veterans about my juniper, and found a gentleman that is very knowledgeable on these trees. I look forward to developing an idea and a plan for my gift.

Yes my wife and youngest daughter during our New York trip.

Lol...I didn't think those magnetic Florida trains looked like that!
Cool!
Gotta go back for Rochester!

I think I would not cut either off till I did some general clean up of the tree and foliage. Maybe start by doing some basic wiring and setting your pads on the top, then see how the cascade branches fit into your design. Your wife found you a very interesting tree.

IMG_20160305_081150.jpg Just a little update on my juniper cascade. I created some deadwood. And of course ran out of wire. I ordered some wire, it should arrive soon. Next winter I plan to repot in a nice pot. I also have some clay in which to create this new pot. It will be an earth tone color, unglazed.

Looks like you're on your way to something special there....
Good job
I think I also said cut both. Glad you didn't

My Juniper is starting to show juvenile foliage. I assume this is from fertilizing. I stop fertilizing for the time being. Will my foliage grow back properly with time or does the juvenile foliage have to be removed?

Do not touch the juvi foliage. If you did the things would only worsen. The tree is showing stress from too much work - reduction, wiring... and yes consider the amount of fertilizer. It will grow normal foliage, but will take some time.

No work was done on tree, just fert cakes. I removed them, but I must say, my tree is very green.

Maybe not now, but 1 month ago? Or during dormancy?
