I finally ordered a crape myrtle. I’ve loved the dwarf cultivars from afar for some time but after looking long and hard at @VAFisher ‘s progression, and especially the bark photo, I had to pull the trigger. I ordered from Wilson Brothers as I ordered a Toyo Nishiki quince from them and was happy with the material at the price and the decent care in shipping (especially considering they do free shipping!) and how well it was packed. Worth mentioning they use paper and cardboard to secure plants so no styro peanuts for those that care. Anyway, the downside, kind of… I ordered the 3 gallon option and was expecting one larger trunk but received what appears to be 6 smaller trunks. That said, some definitely have potential but I won’t really see why I have until I separate them come spring. These are the Pocomoke dwarf variety.

Thats how those drawf crapes are packaged for landscaping purposes. A buch of little trunks cramed in one container to give bulk to the planting. Hopefully whoever you got them from didn't claim to have done any root work. Thats how you would buy them from Lowes or another box store. Atleast in the south.

No claims were made that this was bonsai material. I’ve dealt with Wilson Bros before and know that they’re a landscape material nursery. These are out of my zone so most crapes can be difficult to source in my area (northeast US).

A very foggy club workshop with Julian Tsai.

I was working on this San Jose juniper. Last Feb I grafted kishu onto it - got 5 of 10 grafts to take.

So today was the next step, starting to reduce the San Jose foliage.

Kishu grafts look really strong.

I still need grafts to take on the lowest part of the cascade, so more grafting in Feb.

I went to the silhouette show today. I got to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones. @johng and @MACH5 , it was a pleasure to meet both of you!
Photo tax, my 5 minutes of being a vendor 🤣 @WavyGaby

The first of the 5 tree spruce collection was completed a couple weeks back and photog just got done with the photos. This is the matriarch/queen/mother out of the five and I just finished styling the daughter as well(winter came fast so won’t have the chance to shoot it until repotting in spring).
