My Toyo Nishiki (Flowering quince)

I love the colours on the Toyo Nishiki. Unfortunately I only have a small "no name" quince but it still looks great in flower - though I'm sure Bonhe would have taken a better photo;)
Hi Ianb,
Your quince is very nice!
The picture's difference is due to the fact that I could stay closer to my tree than you :p

This quince has been flowering again. It's weird. At first, white flowers were dominant last month. This month, more red flowers.

I love the multiple colors on one flower. Are they the only quince that does this?

Thats a pretty plant. I have never seen one before so I looked it up online and it showed a few pages of them, but none with three different colored flowers. Is it grafted or is that a special type of Toyo Nishiki. The Toyo Nishiki images online were all red flowers only.

Hi Ed, it's not grafted at all.

Thanks for the pictures. How old does the tree have be before it starts to flower like that?

I made some cutting from it last year. One of cuttings is already blooming.

yeah, but I think cuttings are different - whether they can bloom or not is more based on the age of the parent from which they are cloned, whereas a plant started from seed still needs to go through some kind of maturation process before it can start producing flowers - unfortunately, I don't know how long that is for Chaenomeles Speciosa.

First let me say that while i love lots of different bonsai, quince is my favorite.

I have two of this kind, one is 50 years old and the other 25. I got the oldest when it was 25 years old and was told by the japanese nurseryman that it needed to go another 25 years before the pink and white blooms would find a solid red beginning to show. And that kept pretty much to his prediction. Just one limb is all red and if i get a start from that limb, the starts bloom red. no pink or white. In all my years i have yet to see a bloom on that quince that looks
like a satsuki azealea! They are always just solid colors. So it was such a treat to see the posted pictures! Thank-you SO much!

This year, the flowering quince is also blooming late liked the ume in my area!
This morning, the first flower was seen on this tree.
I recognize that the more sun light the flower quince gets, the brighter color it has!
I made more than 10 cutting so far. I'm still waiting to see cutting desired flower! This year I will make more cutting from this tree (plan to make a bigger cutting).

This branch are carrying at least 3 kinds of flower buds: stripe, pure red, and white.

This year, I think the flowers are much better!!!
I have no idea what is happening. It's common to see more pured red flower than others (accoding to my sensei, the red one is much more stronger than other colors), but so far, lot of different kinds of flowers except red!?
