No "under $5000" option?

Edit: weird, more options are showing now. Nevermimd

LOL at the price points... how about $190? New to the game, so I don't see myself spending anything near $1k in the near future.

I know one person who has spent more than $10K on a bonsai tree - at least one person who wasn't a pro. And I have met a LOT of bonsai people over the years. But we clearly know they are out there - we can see Mirai trees priced at that point that are being sold.

I heard tell of people who have spent over $100 K on POTS... (very very VERY nice pots, but pots nonetheless). Know of several who have spent well over $10 k on more than one tree.

There's no question they are out there. But it's kinda like saying "I know people buy houses that cost more than $10 million - but I just haven't met one of them :)"

Can I do mine based on what I am willing to spend? Being relatively new to bonsai, I haven't bought any expensive trees because I want to get my skills and set up to a level where I can care for more valuable trees.

was just about to vote and realised it was in USD and had to change my vote based on today exchange rate
I adjusted my vote upwards - because I realized that some of the trees I bought 29 years ago would cost twice as much today...

I got spoiled living on the west coast where you could get decent pre-bonsai for under $300. I have yet to spend over $1000 on a single tree. I have been close - and have even considered some trees in the $3000 range. But ultimately decided against the purchase. That is realistically the ceiling for me - $3000 - though I have yet to hit it.

I am less than 1 year into this lifelong practice and thus far, the most I have spent on a tree was $100 for a Hinoki Cypress (2-3' tall), and second to that is $65 for a Blue Atlas Cedar 3'+ which ships in March of this year. I love the idea of purchasing something nice and refined years into the future, but my only experience is the horticultural development stage and initial styling. Refinement is intimidating and yet unexplored for me currently.

Is that your garden in the background?? Wow

Not talking second hand info, FWIW.

I've seen multiple trees in person, for which the owners have paid over (some well over) $10 k. I suspect there is a relatively large market for extreme high end bonsai in the U.S. It's a quiet market though. The folks who are buying those kinds of trees don't post on bonsai forums much (some do, though).

Would be interesting to see the top-trees people have bought here. But an impolite question to pose :)
