Bad comparison my friend...you may take your hobbies as serious as your religion but I'm sure many would disagree with you. Forums are full of disagreeing opinions and I wouldn't want to exist in a world where we march to the beat of one drum which seems to be a theme these days for many groups unfortunatelyIs it just me or is it strange people are posting about not liking bonsai on a bonsai forum? If I was to quit I would never come to this site again. If you like styling trees then style trees. You realize there are thousands of tree types that get styled at different times of year right? So you can always style trees if you just like that. So strange to go to Mecca and complain about how Islam is boring. Just do something else then, what is the point of coming here to agree with everyone who doesn’t know this hobby exists.
I've tried to be respectful but you clearly want to play games which I'm not interested in doingReally you deleted the pictures? Or maybe you are desperate for attention and have never even done bonsai but just need someone to talk to. One sounds more likely to me.
Yes you have been respectful and also honest about your decision. I think it is a good discussion, and I think more people think about doing this than will admit... I hope that you will return to some sort of nature pastime at a future point, gardening, bonsai, whatever. It can bring peace if it is the right thing at the right time.I've tried to be respectful but you clearly want to play games which I'm not interested in doing

I take bonsai far more serious than any religion [EDIT] Let's not start up a religious argument please - BNut [/EDIT]Bad comparison my friend...you may take your hobbies as serious as your religion but I'm sure many would disagree with you. Thank you. Yes I have turned my attention towards my regular garden since I stopped doing Bonsai and I'm finding it quite enjoyable and liberatingYes you have been respectful and also honest about your decision. It's obvious which I stated but keep such silly posts to yourself in the future and you won't feel the threat of an argument brewing.I take bonsai far more serious than any religion [EDIT] Let's not start up a religious argument please - BNut [/EDIT]
This whole topic has become pointless.
I don't think it's a backlash or the like.I have to wonder if the OP lost a favorite tree, which can be disheartening when you think of all the time and work you put into them.
While I think this is a totally legitimate reason to want to quit, this post seems to be a bit of a vendetta or backlash against bonsai.
I cant see any other reason to make such a post in the tone it was made.
Regardless, I hope the OP finds an interest that makes them happy.
This is a bit suspect though.Still a pouty thread. Deleted the pictures? Who hurt you bro?
Love your comment. If I'd known what bonsai was when I started 12 years ago, I would never have undertaken such a feat. I'm not an ultra anything, but do take some hardcore camping and backpacking trips! Always with a qualified house sitter back home to tend the trees and the cat.Amen @Dav4 and @rockm .
Bonsai is a continuity ultramarathon. It selects for a particular kind of person who can satisfy one specific requirement: For each day into the future with no gaps, satisfy your obligation to the trees.
These days when I meet an elder or long-time grower I look at that person with new eyes because I've seen what it takes not to just meet the requirements to simply keep trees alive, but also to achieve impressive aesthetic results. It tells me something about their character that usually wouldn't be clear from normal conversation or appearances.
Outside of bonsai I am an endurance runner and I over time see some odd parallels between bonsai people and ultrarunners ... Well, except that bonsai people are even more hardcore than ultrarunners. A runner can actually take a week-long break in July if they want to!
