Watched Mama Bluebird take care of her family.

I made a bird feeder out of a tomato cage. Has sticks, feeders, and a roof to keep out the rain.

All birds love it. :)

I get dried mealworms and those really attract bluebirds.

One year we had swallows but lately there are no bugs to eat.
So this year the bluebirds have adopted the swallow box.

This morning she has been making the rounds.... Worms, box, and back again. :) About 5-6 times a minute!

Pretty cool to watch the process.

We DO get birds!

Your roof reminded me of the flying nun!😁

Attended my first bonsai workshop/class at Mike's Bonsai Nursery in Litchfield, Maine. We worked on small junipers, it was great to learn first hand. I've watched endless hours on YouTube and read constantly on this site, but there's nothing like attending an in person workshop and getting your hands dirty. The guy in the picture is Mike, not me.

Did a little trim up of the dead twigs on my spirea and removed the wire on the thickest branches and then quickly rewired them the opposite direction because they're not staying in place.
Have it sitting sideways in a tray of pumice to try and get more strength into that lower branch. That's the struggle with spirea just letting branches die off and losing ramification. It will need a restyle.

I like to dig up plants from my yard and give them away to bonsai club members but this barberry I can't even seem to give away.

So I styled it.

Hopefully I can give this little goblin away.

Found a stray dog yesterday and set her up in my shed with the heater. She had a lot of fun running around the backyard and licking peanut butter bones. She didn't even chew on any of my trees.

The cops came and got her at 1am and she's at the shelter getting medical care. I'll call and check on her tomorrow.

Adopt her

Thoroughly enjoyed a forest planting workshop and took home my new little (ish) Dawn Redwood forest!

Did the cost of the workshop include a quite nice plastic training pot for my new forest? Yes.

Did I end up cruising through the pots for sale and buy my own Proper Pot? Also yes.

Lovely Mila (I may be misspelling her name) also helped considerably - here she is taking a rest from her herculean labors.

Nice forest and pot choice. :) Small world. I know that class room, and want to start a "Go fund me" for a new dry erase board. :) Now I'm wondering if we've been in a class at the same time. 🤔 Do they still have this forest?

Nice job on the forest! I immediately recognized that workshop.

I finally configured remote access to a dedicated security camera. Paired with an automatic watering system (or manual watering with app), I can make sure these little trees are getting the water they need when I'm gone -- added security just incase of theft or vandalism isn't a bad bonus.

Tried my hand at some juniper scion grafts. I took a workshop 2 years ago and all those took. Now we get to see how much I remembered.

The plant is an Old Gold Juniper I got on discount at Home Depot in 2019. It has really just sat around. I questioned keeping it and I still might give it away but if the grafts take that person will be happier. Great material to practice on.
