Thanks a lot. Aaron.
Crazy, aren't they? Like they're mad at being cut off short.
Oh I love them, my first elm was a 2nd year seedling I pulled from the yard and threw in a pot in july. Of course the thing lived. Lol I've since started them from seed the last few years along with a few other super fast growers that do well hereCrazy, aren't they? Like they're mad at being cut off short.
Same thing as any other tree I collect, it'll only be MUCH larger. I try to at least keep one large specimen of my favorite species. It'll show me the style it wants to be some day, for now, all I can see is leaves!!! LmfaoThis may seem short sighted, so forgive me... but with a tree base that big.. what the hell are you going to do with it? lol.

Not at all, this thing will easily be 8 ft tall by the autumn. Also these things grow faster in pots where they can be cared for better. Once I get this into a grow box next year, I'd say 5 years at most before I start to get some solid taper in the apex. Siberian elms are so much different then Chinese elms. The Siberian easily grows twice as fast here and these elms actually thrive with New Mexico full sun, which is very rare for any plant. I'd say I'll more then likely have this thing in a bonsai pot in about 10 years, at which point it'll already be getting refined.Yeah. Just I'm thinking of normal practices, a leader branch, primary, creating taper etc and with this... I'm just thinking "how the hell are you supposed to do that..." It'd take a lifetime to do wouldn't it? Lol or at least a handful of decades.
During an accidental experiment last winter I learned something interesting. I had about 30 in my coldhouse being protected, I also had about 10 outside in the elements because I didn't have a lot of space in my shelter. This spring the trees outside had every branch leaf out no problem, but the trees that were protected had areas of dieback. I think they need some real cold to have a solid dormancy. We only hit 13°f this winter but those things were frozen all winter with no water. They will grow 3 to 4 feet in a year here and it's a shorter growing season. I've heard they lose branches like birches. I haven't experienced that yet.
That's interesting. Mine definitely get a good cold dormancy.During an accidental experiment last winter I learned something interesting. @M. Frary can attest to these trees beastliness.

I like to joke around some. And be a dick. Once you get past that I'm a great guy. I grow on you. Like moss.Interesting. I didn't know that.
You see, all that Mike talks about on my topics is snorting stuff. We must have a very different relationship than you 2

Also most of your questions were answered by others.
I can and do give some good information at times. And I only give it on stuff I know. I use the DE extensively. It's great and you will love it. Mix it with lava and pumice or straight up. I use it straight up a lot. No bark. No dirt. Completely inorganic. You have no bugs no watering issues and can dump fertilizer through it like no tomorrow. Wrong thread I know. But now you're prepared!
I don't snort anything anymore. Er I mean I don't snort stuff.
Just don't ask me about poop.Oh yeah, my last post was completely a joke. You've given me helpful posts, plenty of times. It was your recommendation that pushed me in to miracle grow fert, on my other topic. Others had recommended it too of course.
I was going to PM you today actually with a fert related question.. I might do!
Just don't ask me about poop.
I've gotten rid of a few of my collected elms this year and want to keep what I have. But I have quite a few tagged for collection next spring. I could sell you one this time next year if you'd like, I'll give you a good price.Jealous
