Hey Fellow Bnuts!

Sharing my most recent addition to the Bonsai collection. This tree is definitely the closest thing to show ready that i've ever purchased. It's a Korean Hornbeam, est. around 100 yrs old, about 29 inches tall. I believe this was originally a single trunk tree and someone airlayered a branch, planting it as a second trunk on the viewers lower left hand side. I was attracted to the powerful trunk with nice movement. Future plans will be to elongate the branching on the secondary trunk and pushing the movement that way as well. I hope to increase the density in branching and heal some of the wounds on the back side. Luckily the wounds are mostly all on the back side and they are not very big. This tree is in a @NaoTK glazed pot. Unfortunately this pic doesn't do the tree or container justice. Thanks for taking a look:)

Amazing! How many pesos did this set you back?

Very nice indeed.

Now I can tell a vast differance from the Korean Hornbeam var.coreana and then there is the (regular) turczaninowii. The latter has the salmon pink leaves and are slightly more elongated whereas the var.coreana has the tri-color autumn leaves and more rounded slightly.

From the bark on yours I’m guessing the var.coreana……?

Like back in the day I remember Mario Komsta popularizing the one with the even salmon pink fall colored kind turczaninowii.

I may have seeds of both growing…..not sure.

Very amazing bonsai you have there👍

Spectacular tree! (The pot isn't bad either 😁) I love old KH. This an import?

Congrats, Jeremiah! That is a stunner. Gonna show it at the Expo this fall?
Thank you! I entered two trees to the Expo this year, but they were two other trees. I want to improve this tree for several years before showing it. Will you be there? Are you showing anything? @misfit11

Thank you @cmeg1 Yah know this is a very interesting topic that i'm not qualified to answer. But I too am very curious about! Someone once told me that one of the two scientific names were outdated and they are the same thing. The differences are simply genetic based off which seed you select. But I have no idea if that's correct or not. I'd like to research this further. For the longest time I use to call Sierra Juniper-Juniperus Occidentalis Australis, then I found it was renamed several years back to Juniperus Grandis. I'll be looking into it.

Hmmm... this is saying that Coreana was previously used and now it's Turczaninowii. But, still uncertain

Very cool tree! I'm excited to see you take it further (please post updates when you work on it ;) ).
Any more podcasts coming this year?

Will do! thanks:) Yes, more podcasts too. Needed to take a break because life got busy, but I've just started lining up some guests.
