@Hartinez , how much growth did you get this year?
Zero. I lost the entire top half of this tree, along with several other trees that completely died when I was out of town in the hottest part of summer. My wife happened to be in her surgical rotation for PA school and was not able to water as well as needed. Total bummer.

Lobata definitely seems a little less robust in my climate (Coastal SoCal) than the local oaks. I have a big one that’s just been surviving the last year and a half. Hopefully it’ll behave and start growing like it’s Coast, Valley, Cork, Blue and Engelmannii cousins. I have smaller Lobatas in 1-gallons, and they are a little temperamental, too. One decided to defoliate late last month and shoot new buds.

Oaks are the best. Maybe @bonsainut should create an oak forum here?
