Similar to the other I posted, I ga e to make a choice that will cut off about 1/2 the tree either way. Suggestions on which branch to continue on as leader is greatly appreciated. One continues more vertical with the existing gently curve while the right makes a more dramatic cut and removing the left may leave a large scar there.

If it was my tree I think I’d keep the leader on the right. Looks like a more dynamic trunk line from what I can see

I agree with @cmu268 + At some point I would also reduce that branch your finger is on.

Or. ….IMG_0643.jpeg

@Eckhoffw after I posted went back and was looking at this line too. Even better and probably develop better taper over time than the other two leader options
Yeah. I agree. You’ll initially have a big wound at those chops, but I think it’s early enough in the game to do such.

Thanks for the advice. So to be clear, the first option is the first image leaving the right as leader and reducing the right branch? The second is basically chopping the whole tree off and using the branch as a new trunk? If I do the second more drastic option however, I will have nearly no candles to work worth or energy production.

Why wouldn't you have that next year?

i can see your concern. However, the first option is gonna leave you with issues later on. Like bulging/reverse taper at the elbow.

If you want to grow this trunk out, I would just leave everything. Otherwise, I would go with option two.
