I've got a few plants in my back yard that have been hacked back repeatedly. I thought about collecting them to see what I can do with them, but I missed the window and now they're all leafed out. Thought they were some kind of oak, but I'm not that educated on identifying leaves. I tried Googling native species in my area, but nothing seems to match.

I'd say it's a mulberry, I've got LOTS of them. Lol super fun species for bonsai, fast growing and almost indestructable.

Someone throw that in the underused and unappreciated thread!

Totally agreed, they are some of my favorite trees I have.

I haven't had any since I figured out soil and winter...
And they did well then!

Huge fan!

I think if morus, then morus rubra. I've got M. nigra and M. alba. M. alba has the leaves lobed irregularly and not so deep. M. nigra no lobes...

The wild mulberries around here (@KennedyMarx lives in Indiana which is much more 'around here' than Slovakia) could have both lobed and not lobed leaves on the same tree ;)

Damn Damn brohams!

Saw some today.....

This is one of those trees that can have 8in or 1in leaves.

Gotta get another!
