Here is a small zelkova that I've raised from a teensy little stick. I finally got it a pot this year, its an Erin pot, I really love it. It's just had a haircut too... It's starting to look ok....

Very nice little tree, Any pictures of the progression ? did you build the nebari from scratch or it was almost like this ? did it have it share in the ground or raised all the way in pots ?

Sorry for all these questions but I am very interrested in progressions since I am starting (all over again :) ) and I am trying to see how things work

Thanks ak.
I raised it all in pots, got a stick online... Was one of my first trees, so it's not super clean, there are some problems with bark nicks, but it's getting better as I learn more. I just spread the roots out, and kept working on them every time I repotted. I'll look for photos, but I wasn't super into taking pics of my sticks back then.
It's about 8" tall or so.

Nice little tree. You sure it's not a Chinese Elm?

Cool looking Zelkova,I grew some from seeds once and they can transform rather quickly(for small bonsai),I actually just decided to get some seed just now. There is a neat article in Bonsai Today 71 that shows a way to do them from seed.

Zelcova's are in the elm family. The Japanese call these Japanese grey bark elm. For all intents and purposes they are treated exactly the same in care and technique.

any update on this little guy ?
